2011 MYSTERY MODELS / CARS

Just when you thought that Mattel Hotwheels has done away with the Mystery cars segment series, here come a big blow to us collectors. Seem that there is a NEW Mystery series appearing in K-Mart in the States. Its called the Mystery Models which is in blind plastic baggie packaging. Each of these packet consists of a basic hotwheels models and a piece of catalog / poster showing all the models in the series and there are 24 of them all in total.

This is what / how the mystery models series being sold looks like. A big box with holes at both the bottom and top. Its looks like a FIFO (first-in, first-out) system. Packet is taken out from the bottom and replace back at the top. This will cycle the package randomly in the box if ones return the package taken from bottom. No more peeps holes or open carded, now all need to do is feel the packaging to know whats models are in them, unless they are wrap-up. Good luck.

All 24 Cars line-up are listed below:

1. Custom Camaro
2. 24 Hours
3. 71 Dodge Challenger
4. 65 Ford Ranchero
5. 71 Dodge Charger R/T
6. 83 Camaro Z28
7. '67 Shleby GT 500
8. Dodge Drag Neon
9. Chevy Camaro Concept
10. '69 Ford Mustang
11. Pass'n Gasser

Super Tsunami

Again this series is not available outside of the US, as to why i've no idea. Am lucky that Mattel Malaysia did a Promotion in 2007 called "HOT BOX" (will feature this article soon) which include a Mystery cars that enable me to complete them. Include are some photo of the 2008 Mystery cars that i got and wants. Enjoy.

Hot wheels : Mystery Cars 2007

In 2007, Mattel Hot wheels offer collectors a new series in their regular lineup of basic cars called “MYSTERY CAR”. These Mystery cars are so called because of its packaging in BLACK plastic on cards. A total of 24 difference models are offer in this series and collectors cant see what in the packaging until they open them. This is a great marketing strategy to get collectors to buy them to trade /sell in order to complete the series.

Initial speculation by some collectors that THUNT (Treasure Hunts) are IN these mystery cars thus making them sold out in an instant and making it hard to finds. Also there is a code at the back of every blister card of this mystery cars that leads to collectors to think that those code represent which cars are in them. Later Mattel official said that there is NO THUNT in them special packaging series and that those code is nothing more then just reference number for retailer.

The packaging photo.

The 24 cars that offer for in this series are as shown with some having second color release :-

  • What -4-2 [ White / Black ]
  • Plymouth Barracuda [ Black / Red ]
  • Corvette C6 [ Red / Yellow]
  • Symbolic
  • Power Rage [ Gold / Silver ]

  • Sand Stinger
  • 65’ Bonneville [ Red / Black ]
  • Maserati MC12
  • VW Beetle Convertible [ Magenta / Green ]

Since the Mystery cars series was so popular, Mattel has continue to include this Series in its yearly basic cars run series in 2008 and coming 2009. For those collectors that keep carded cars Unopened, guess in this series they have to open them up in order to complete them.
